Passants parmi les pierres
curated by Thomas Demand
Accompanying the exhibition, fjk3 invites visitors to a series of expert-led tours. Drawing on selected works from the exhibition and the image captions written by Clemens J. Setz, guests from the fields of photography, visual studies, and art history will discuss perception, memory, and the question of how images not only represent reality but also help shape it.
The expert-guided tours accompanying the exhibition offer visitors the opportunity to engage more deeply, and through dialogue, with the role of images in shaping perception, memory, and history.
One of the experts leading these tours is Manisha Jothady, an art historian, author, and university lecturer, who approaches these questions from the perspective of media theory. She began her career in arts and cultural journalism. During the 2000s, she worked as an editor of the art journal Camera Austria International, where she deepened her theoretical engagement with the medium of photography and its aesthetic, historical, and social dimensions.
Since 2021, she has served as Project Director of fjk3 – Space for Contemporary Art. Having studied art history and German literature, she is particularly interested in the interplay between image and text, and in the ways literary and visual strategies complement, shift, or comment on one another. Against this background, the exhibition Passants parmi les pierres holds a special significance for her: the texts by Clemens J. Setz enter into a complex dialogue with the photographic works, opening up new perspectives on perception and memory.
