fjk3 at Pratermuseum on the occasion of the exhibition Lucy McKenzie – Orchestrion
Fri, 11/7/2025, 4:30 PM
The Scottish artist Lucy McKenzie often draws on phenomena of 19th- and early 20th-century consumer and leisure culture in her work. At fjk3, she presents, among other things, pieces inspired by moving panoramic images from past centuries, which were part of the experience world of former amusement parks such as the Vienna Prater. Also on display is the titular Orchestrion, a mechanical music machine that could imitate an entire orchestra, and which—thanks to a loan from the Wien Museum—is now part of Lucy McKenzie's exhibition.
During a guided tour in German through the Pratermuseum, which is part of the Wien Museum, the museum’s curators Susanne Winkler and Werner Michael Schwarz provide deeper insights into the history of this leisure area—an area uniquely tied to the identity of a city, just as the Wurstelprater is with Vienna.
