Off The Shelf: Bianca Pedrina, Architekturfotografie II

Fri, 26/7/2024, 7:00 PM

On the occasion of her recent publication Architekturfotografie II, artist Bianca Pedrina talks to Astrid Seme (graphic designer) and Thomas Geiger (artist) from Mark Pezinger Books.

Bianca Pedrina photographs urban spaces, focusing on seemingly insignificant details, traces and fragments that potentially contain the whole. In the artist's photographs, the urban interventions and buildings become evident as products of their planners, their use and the time that gnaws at them. However, they also reveal the power dynamics of top-down processes. Pedrina's interpretation of architectural photography aims to demystify the distorted representation of architecture that has become a sales argument and to offer an alternative reading

Her current publication focuses on moments of architectural incongruity and the clash of different forms and times. Places such as Taipei, Seoul, Shanghai, Pisa, Andratx, Sofia, Leeds, Glasgow, St. Anton, Colmar, Zagreb, Brno and Mödling come to the fore in an exciting and contrasting way. The accompanying texts by artist Michiel Huijben reflect on how transitions or borders shape our human relationships.

Mark Pezinger Books was founded in 2009 as a platform for artists' books. Under the direction of graphic designer Astrid Seme and artist Thomas Geiger, the publishing house's collaborations thrive on the synergy between artists, designers, editors and institutions.
