Viktor Hufnagl (1922–2007) was a pioneer of contemporary school design and an innovator of housing types who viewed his profession as a socio-political enterprise. Demonstrating a clear disposition toward geometric ordering systems, he produced robust buildings and habitats. His school designs, which were organized around large multi-functional atria, changed the course of subsequent planning. The Gerasdorfer Straße housing estate in Vienna embodies his interpretation of a garden city settlement. Hufnagl also devised a comprehensive project for the Danube Canal which aimed to forge a tree-shaded connection between two existing wooded terrains: the Vienna Woods to the west and the Prater to the east.
The book was published on the occasion of the exhibition Viktor Hunagl – Geometric Theoremsand gathers previously unpublished materials from the estate of Viktor Hufnagl. They are supplemented by photographs by Werner Feiersinger, which were also on view in the exhibition.
