Lucy McKenzie. Orchestrion: Artist Talk & Opening

Thu, 5/6/2025, 5:30 PM

In her interdisciplinary work, which encompasses painting, sculpture, architecture, fashion, and design, Lucy McKenzie explores art and culture as media-based expressions of socio-political conditions. She is particularly interested in areas such as public space, advertising graphics, consumer culture, and political propaganda. A central question in her artistic practice is how these fields influence the representation of women, and thus gender-specific power relations.

On the occasion of the opening of the exhibition Lucy McKenzie. Orchestrion, cultural journalist Nina Schedlmayer engages in a conversation with the artist.

She studied at the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design in Dundee and at the Institut Van Der Kelen-Logelain in Brussels, where she learned traditional techniques such as trompe-l’œil and wood imitation.
