Artist Talk
Philipp Fleischmann: Artist Talk
Thu, 13/3/2025, 7:00 PM
Philipp Fleischmann (*1985, AT) works at the intersection of visual art and film. The physical materiality of the analog film strip is central to all of his works, as is his engagement with self-built cameras and displays. With this specific approach, the artist holds a unique position within a younger generation of moving image artists.
On the occasion of his solo exhibition 13 Film Works, Philipp Fleischmann will talk with curator and author Anne Zühlke about his media-reflective and sensory approach to film, which has evolved over the past few years in various formal-aesthetic manifestations.
Anne Zühlke is a curator and art historian based in Vienna and Vorarlberg. As the artistic director, she programs the DOCK 20 in Lustenau (AT). She is also currently responsible for the art acquisitions of Vorarlberg and writes as a freelance author for artists and magazines. She co-runs the Off-Space CACHE (Vienna). The focus of her curatorial practice and art historical work lies in the forms and politics of memory and the experience of the present, as well as their medium-specific expression in aesthetics and space.
Philipp Fleischmann works as an artist and filmmaker in Vienna. Since 2014, he has been the artistic director of the Friedl Kubelka School for Independent Film, where he studied in 2006. Further studies at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Dorit Margreiter Choy and at the Royal Danish Art Academy with Gerard Byrne.
Selected exhibitions and screenings: 34th Bienal de São Paulo (BR), 16th Biennale de Lyon (FR), Salzburger Kunstverein (AT), Kunstverein Braunschweig (DE), mumok Kino (AT), Secession (AT), Innsbruck International (AT), MAK Schindler Residency Program, Los Angeles (USA), Museum of the Moving Image, NYC (USA), Berlinale (DE), Toronto International Film Festival (CA), Ann Arbor Film Festival (USA).
